KHANAQIN, Kurdistan Region – An Arab man and two of his daughters were killed “by ISIS” on Wednesday evening, according to local police.

“When the family was returning [to Khanaqin] they were targeted by the militants … on Khanaqin-Nawdoman road,” Diyar Shawkat, head of Khanaqin police, told Rudaw.

Shawkat said police followed the attackers’ tracks and found they had headed to an open area known as Nada, “where ISIS are.”

ISIS has reportedly killed 28 civilians and security forces in Khanaqin, Qarata, Golala, and Saadiya in the last three months. Five ISIS militants have been killed during the same period.

Khanaqin is in Diyala province, 240 kilometers southeast of Erbil, near the border with Iran and within the disputed areas.
