Some 10,000 people were forced to flee their houses west of the Tigris River to Zakho due to mounted assaults launched by Iran-backed Hashd al-Shaabi militias and the Iraqi army against Kurdish Peshmerga forces in the region.

The displaced families are pleading for help from international organizations as winter nears.

Local officials say there are only seven organizations present in Zakho and that due to flight bans it is difficult to bring in more organizations to assist the displaced families.
