The local administrator of Fish Khabur Khalid Yacob Marucs tells Rudaw that as Christians and Yezidis of the area they don’t want war and are therefore asking the Vatican Church and the United States to make ensure their safety by keeping the war away.
“I call on the Pope, on the United States, on the international community, to have an immediate intervention. We’re Christians and Yezidis here.
We’re close to the battlefront. We want them to intervene and stop any bloodshed. We Iraqis are all one. We fought ISIS together.”
He added: “We also call on Iraqi PM Abadi. We are peaceful Christians. Peaceful Yezidis. We don’t want war. We want peace. If war comes here we ask the Pope to take us to other countries because we don’t like war. We only want peace.”
