CHAMCHAMAL, Kurdistan Region - At least four unidentified helicopters opened fire over the plains in Aghjalar sub-district, northeast of Chamchamal town in Sulaimani province. No casualties were reported but a fire was started.

“Tonight, a number of helicopters were spotted over the plains of Aghjalar sub-district, incinerating the plains of Graw village. Many wooded areas, hay fields and orchards in the area caught fire,” Amanj Mohammed, mayor of Chamchamal, told Rudaw.

“I talked to Aghjalar’s administrator and he confirmed the news,” Mohammed added. “It is not clear who has carried out this action.”

He further explained, “It seems that these helicopters are unknown. It is not the first time such things have happened in this region.”

In mid-July, two unknown helicopters opened fire in the mountainous areas of Dukan resort in Sulaimani province.

Mohammed blamed the “Peshmerga and interior ministries and other associated parties who have not been able to find the reasons for these events. They have to do something.”
