DUHOK, Kurdistan Region – A Kurdish official with the National Olympic Committee of Iraq (NOCI) was kidnapped on Tuesday by unknown gunmen on the Baghdad-Karbala road.
Bashar Mustafa is the deputy head of NOCI and head of Iraq’s boxing federation. He was in Karbala to attend a memorial service for a member of his boxing federation
His family has no immediate information about what happened to him, Rudaw’s correspondent Nechirvan Hussein reported from Duhok, where they live.
Mustafa, 60, has been the deputy head of NOCI since 2009. He has been an athlete all his life, playing volleyball and basketball, in addition to boxing.
