ERBIL, Kurdistan Region – An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.3 has caused some damage in the city of Rania, north of Dukan Lake, about 83 kilometers southeast of Erbil.
Photos shared on social media show damage to some cars and buildings. Some thirty people were injured in the quake.
The tremor was felt in the cities of Erbil and Sulaimani.
A German earthquake monitor, GEOFON, confirmed the 5.3 event at a depth of 8 km with an epicenter on the northeast shore of Dukan Lake, about 8 km southeast of Ranya.
The University of Tehran also confirmed the quake.
