BERLIN, Germany – The health of Kosrat Rasul, acting head of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) is "excellent" after about a week of treatment.

Rasul, 64, was rushed to Sulaimani's Faruq Hospital on November 11 after he suffered a stoppage of blood flow to his small intestine, a condition called acute mesenteric.

He underwent an operation in Sulaimani before being flown to the German capital on November 16 for further treatment.

"The results of all medical checkups are promising," said Dr. Dara Rasheed, the head of his medical team.

"Mr Kosrat no longer has any medical problems and does not need any further treatments. We will go back to Kurdistan after finishing all medical procedures," he said.

Darbaz, Rasul's son who is also the minister of reconstruction, visited his father in Berlin. He posted on Facebook a photo of the two smiling in the hospital and another of his father receiving a phone call.

Dr. Rasheed said that Rasul will need another surgery in the future. He had said the second surgery will take place in December.

Dr. Rasheed told Rudaw on Saturday that Rasul was improving in Berlin and was able to eat, speak, and move. Rasul was still in intensive care at the time.

Rasul became the PUK's acting head after the death of the party's founder and leader Jalal Talabani in early October.
