Just weeks after their return residents of the town of Jalawla have started clearing their streets and public places of rubble and the aftermath of war.
Around 200 families returned to Jalawla last month after it was cleared of many bombs and explosives left behind by militants of the Islamic State (ISIS).
The town’s municipality machinery were destroyed in the war or stolen by ISIS. So these people use their own tools.
They hope for more support from the Diyala government.
Jalawla was taken by ISIS August 2014 but it was liberated by the Kurdish Peshmerga three months later.
The town is home to Kurds, Arabs, and Turkmen.
