Hundreds of pro-Syrian government forces arrived in the northwestern Kurdish canton of Afrin on Tuesday.
They will “take up positions on the borders and participate in defending the territorial unity of Syria and its borders,” YPG spokesperson Nouri Mahmoud has confirmed in a statement.
Turkey fired at the fighters, forcing them to withdraw from Afrin, Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan claimed.
