MUNICH, Germany – Germany sees German and international support for the Peshmerga and the Kurdistan Region continuing for “quite a while,” to continue training the Peshmerga, supporting refugees, and developing the economy to provide stability for the region, Ursula von der Leyen, Germany’s defence minister, said.

She repeatedly described the Kurds and Peshmerga as reliable, saying it was a positive experience for Germany to have such a good partner in Iraq. “Whatever we discussed with them, they did it,” von der Leyen said.

She made her comments after holding an “excellent” meeting with Kurdish President Masoud Barzani at the Munich Security Conference.
