ERBIL, Kurdistan Region – Warplanes from the US-led collation to fight the Islaimc State, or ISIS,  carried out 11 airstrikes Thursday against extremist positions on the Mekhmour front, inflicting heavy casualties and killing the group's local leader, a source inside the Iraqi security forces told Rudaw.

“Before dawn this morning, the warplanes conducted 11 airstrikes against ISIS bases and vehicles in the village of Karmadi in Mekhmour, killing Abu Tamil the [local] group’s top figure,” said the source.

He added that many other militants were also killed and many vehicles were destroyed.

According to the source, the bombing of ISIS bases in Karmadi came as the radical fighters were gearing up to launch a massive assault.
