ERBIL, Kurdistan Region – Unidentified gunmen believed to be Islamic State (ISIS) militants were discovered by Kurdish security forces on Azhdagh mountain in Sangaw, southern Sulaimani. All four militants were killed.
“On the Tiymar-Sangaw road, a number of militants were ambushed by Asayesh [security] and counter-terror forces,” a well-placed source told Rudaw late Wednesday.
The source added that the militants fought back, but the security forces killed three. The fourth detonated his explosive vest.
Three members of the security forces were wounded.
The Peshmerga have been carrying out military maneuvers in the mountainous areas of Sangaw in southern Sulaimani province. On August 14, another two militants, identified as ISIS, were killed in the area.
