KIRKUK, Kurdistan Region – A Peshmerga convoy was seen passing through the streets of Kirkuk, heading to Mosul on Saturday.
The convoy is from the second reinforcement force, and the 16th brigade command.
Peshmerga forces have begun mobilizing closer to the outskirts of Mosul. Today’s convoy is part of this military build-up, which is nearly complete, in anticipation of the battle that is expected to begin any day.
“We are heading to Mosul with high morale. Our participation in the offensive is key, as a large number of Kurds live in Mosul,” one Peshmerga told Rudaw.
Mosul, Iraq’s second largest city, has been under ISIS control since June 2014.
