ERBIL, Kurdistan Region – A weapons depot at Kirkuk’s military airport caught fire following an electrical problem, a police official confirmed.
“A fire broke out outside the storage site and later spread inside,” Afrasiaw Kamil Waisi, Kirkuk police spokesperson, told Rudaw.
Waisi confirmed that the location contained “weapons and munitions of the Iraqi army, and thus it exploded.”

Without assessing damage to the site, Waisi said firefighter teams were working to put out the fire.
The airport along with K-1 military base fell to the Iraqi armed forces on October 16 after Kurdish forces pulled out in the face of a major military incursion into the city.
