Cezmi Budak was killed by Turkish army fire in the Kurdish region of Agri, sources announced.
The violence occurred near the village of Yukari Tutek in Agri province, where Turkish forces reported killing five suspected PKK rebels. They said the outlaws had opened fire on Turkish soldiers during a spring festival, wounding four of them.
Nuri Celik, co-leader of the pro-Kurdish Democratic Regions Party (BDP) confirmed Budak’s death. He said the bodies of Budak or the rebels had yet to be returned by the military.
The latest clashs come at a tense time, when the government and PKK are engaged in a slow-moving peace process to end a three-decade guerrilla war by the rebels, and ahead of parliamentary elections in June.
