ERBIL, Kurdistan Region – Kurdish forces repulsed an Islamic State (ISIS) assault in Shingal on Sunday, a Peshmerga official old Rudaw .
“Islamic State militants in the town of Shingal launched an assault on the Peshmerga forces, but the Kurdish forces fiercely defeated the attack, inflicting casualties among the militants,” said the official, who was speaking on condition of anonymity.
“The Peshmerga and the extremists locked in an hour-long battle, but later the militants retreated, leaving a dead body behind,” he added.
Last Tuesday, US-led coalition forces bombarded ISIS bases in Shingal, killing or wounding fighters, according to Brigadier Issa Zewai, a Peshmerga commander in the area.
