DUHOK, Kurdistan Region - Kurdish police sources said Friday they arrested a Turkish truck driver carrying on him an Islamic State (ISIS) identity card and other proof of membership in the group.
A source inside the Oilfield Protection Force told Rudaw that the driver of the tanker was arrested as he was about to enter the Sheikh Hadi oilfield near the town of Sheikhan in Duhok province.
“Upon inspection, an ISIS identity card and some other proof of the group was found inside the tanker,” the source said.
He identified the driver by his initials A. V., and said his ID card carried the ISIS logo and other information associating the man with the group.
“The driver is now in custody on suspicion of having connections with ISIS,” the source said on condition of anonymity.
He added that the driver worked for a Turkish oil transportation company, and that he was handed over to the Duhok security forces for further investigation.
Earlier this week, police arrested another Turkish driver at an oilfield near Pesat village on suspicion of having links with ISIS.
