ERBIL, Kurdistan Region – At least two Iranian-Kurdish Peshmerga soldiers were killed and three others wounded in an explosion in southern Kirkuk. The device appeared to have been planted by ISIS militants during earlier clashes.
An official from the Kurdistan Freedom Party (PAK) confirmed to Rudaw that "in between two outposts of the party near the villages of Kharabarut and Gobaiba, an ISIS-planted TNT was triggered by five Peshmerga of the party, killing two and wounding three more."
Khalid Nadiri, head of PAK relations, also told Rudaw that the Peshmerga who died were aged between 19 and 21, both from Iranian Kurdistan.
Kharabarut village is near ISIS’ stronghold of Hawija and is under Peshmerga control, but Gobaiba is still held by ISIS.
The Kurdistan Freedom Party is from eastern Kurdistan in Iran. It was founded in 1991 by Ali Qazi Mohammed.
The party has been fighting ISIS side-by-side the Kurdistan Region’s Peshmerga since day one.
