ERBIL, Kurdistan region – The parliament of the Kurdistan region has earmarked funds to help Yazidi Kurds who have been recently released by ISIS militants, a Kurdish lawmaker says.

“Upon our request, the Kurdistan parliament has decided to help hundreds of Yazidis who managed to flee from ISIS fighters,” Sheikh Shamo, a member of Kurdistan Parliament, told Rudaw.

Shamo said 165 million Iraqi dinar, or $141,685, would be reserved in the KRG budget to help the freed Yazidis.

He added that about 780 Yazidis have been released, but  3,000 are still in the hands of ISIS fighters.
