ZAKHO, Kurdistan Region – In the camp where they live in Zakho, Nadia Murad’s family is proud of her bravery and accomplishments recognized on Friday by the Nobel committee, awarding Nadia and Dr. Denis Mukwege the Peace Prize.
"Our sister has raised our heads and we are very proud of her, not only because of this prize but since the first day she stood up and spoke up and visited all these countries,” said Khayria Murad of her sister’s activities as global advocate for Yezidis and UN goodwill ambassador.
“We have always been proud of her and we are now even more proud of her because of this prize. She has raised our heads and made us happy, not only myself as her sister but all Yezidis."
