ERBIL, Kurdistan Region – ISIS bases in the disputed Shingal area were bombarded by airstrikes from the US-led coalition on Tuesday night, inflicting casualties on the group's fighters, Brigadier Issa Zewai, a Peshmerga commander in the area, has told Rudaw.

“Tonight at 8pm, the warplanes pounded several ISIS positions in the Shingal district of Nasir three times, reportedly inflicting casualties on the militants but we have yet to know how many,” said Zewai.

According to Zewai, several ISIS armored vehicles have also been destroyed.

The coalition airstrikes took advantage of Peshmerga intelligence gathering, Zewai said, adding that planes were still visible in the area.

Earlier this week, US-led warplanes pounded ISIS positions in Shingal after the extremists began blowing up abandoned homes in the Yezidi-dominated town.

“Coalition warplanes conducted five airstrikes on ISIS positions in the Shingal neighborhoods of Qadisiya, Qasri Smail Bag, and the town of Nasri in Shingal,” said Zewai on Sunday.
