ERBIL, Kurdistan Region – The number of militants killed in confrontations with Kurdish security forces on Sunday in the Kurdish town of Darbandikhan, southeastern Sulaimani, rose to four, said a Rudaw reporter.
“Two more militants were gunned down by Asaiysh (Kurdish security) forces in Bawa Amra,” in Darbandikhan, said Rudaw’s Halo Mohammed, adding, “they were related to the other two militants who were killed earlier in the morning.”
The security forces transferred the bodies of the militants to Sulaimani for identity checks, Mohammed detailed.
Earlier this morning, two suicide bombers blew themselves up following an ambush by the Asaiysh forces in the village of Ponala, also in Darbandikhan, a security source said.
He told Rudaw that a heavy gun battle followed between the bombers and security forces in the village during which the militants blew themselves up.
No security or civilian casualties have been reported.
