ERBIL, Kurdistan Region – An unknown gunman has opened fire on a senior police officer from Kirkuk. The officer, who currently lives in Sulaimani, has been severely injured.
The incident took place on Saholaka Street, a popular area in Sulaimani where people gather to eat and drink tea. The officer’s name is Khalid Hassan Hussein. He was the supervisor of the office of brigadier Sarhad Qadir, the head of the town and district police.
“Lieutenant colonel Khalid was the supervisor of my office and has been living in Sulaimani since after October 16. Two hours ago, a stranger opened fire on him at the Saholaka Street and [Khalid] has been hit with four bullets,” brigadier Sarhad Qadir told Rudaw.
Most of the Kurdish officials of Kirkuk have left the city and settled in the Kurdistan Region following the fall of the city to Iraqi forces.
