ERBIL, Kurdistan Region – US-led coalition airstrikes hammered Islamic State bases west of Kirkuk on Wednesday night, killing 10 militants.
“Last night warplanes heavily bombarded the Islamic State group also known as Daesh in Humayria village,” Sarhad Qadir, director of police in Kirkuk province, told Rudaw on Thursday.
Qadir said at least 10 ISIS militants were killed during Wednesday night’s operation.
“We also heard a big sound that seemed to be the Daesh military storehouse being blown up due to the bombardment,” the police director added.
Peshmerga forces backed by coalition airstrikes have recaptured large swaths of territory in the past few months west of Kirkuk province that were previously under ISIS control.
