Abbasi was released on Friday morning in Istanbul.
She was reportedly detained for making social media posts calling the Turkish state an oppressive regime following their assault on the Kurdish city of Afrin in northwest Syria.
------
ERBIL, Kurdistan Region — Turkish authorities have detained famous Kurdish singer Yalda Abbasi at Ataturk International Airport in Istanbul, according to reports.
Abbasi is from North Khorasan province in Iran and was travelling with her mother to perform at a cultural event, the Mezopotamya news agency reported on Thursday night.
It was not immediately clear why the young artist was arrested.
The Mesopotamia Culture Center is hosting a 27th anniversary event at the Bostanci Show Center on Sunday.
Abbasi has held concerts previously in Turkey; however, authorities are increasingly targeting Kurdish journalists and musicians on alleged ties to or propaganda for banned organizations.
