Kurdish Gov’t says revenue from agriculture sector last year was $840 million.
This revenue makes up %10 of the gov’t annual budget.
The agriculture ministry wants to boost the sector further. But it needs $3 billion.
The ministry says it invested $2 billion in agriculture last year as part of boosting the sector.
Now the KRG bans the importing of fruit and vegetable during local harvest season.
The government has only allocated %4 of its budget to agriculture.
Economists say that increasing the budget for this sector will create more new jobs, too, and will lead to exports.
Gov’t statistics suggest there are 153,000 farmers in the Kurdistan Region.
