ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - The Kirkuk to Ceyhan oil pipeline will be back in operating "within a couple of days" after being out of service since last February 17.

"We are expecting within a couple of days the pipeline will be up and running," said Murat Ozgul, the chief execution of Genel Energy, a large oil producer in the Kurdistan Region, according to Reuters.

The Turkish government has been increasing security measures in its Kurdish-majority southeast. Through which the pipeline runs.

It's not clear who sabotaged the pipeline last February 17, nor is it clear if the saboteurs intended to steal oil or simply take the oil pipeline out of operation.

The Kurdistan Region, and Iraq, rely heavily on income from oil sales to the international market, via the Turkish port of Ceyhan. Both Baghdad and Erbil have been affected by the ongoing war against Islamic State (ISIS) and the steep fall in the world price of oil.
