ERBIL, Kurdistan Region – Rudaw TV will become the latest channel to join Freeview DTV in the United Kingdom on December 1, Rudaw Media Network announced Friday, bringing news, features, and analysis to the UK’s Kurdish diaspora.
“As part of a new Rudaw Media Network service to its viewers, we are glad to notify the Kurdish diaspora in Britain that on December 1, 2019, Rudaw, as the first Kurdish TV on the Freeview system in Britain, will go on air,” the network said.
Freeview, a joint venture launched by Britain’s TV giants in 2002, is the UK’s digital terrestrial television system (DTV).
The Kurdish diaspora in London numbers in the tens of thousands. Many of them migrated to Britain in the 1990s to escape years of war, persecution, and sanctions.
“Currently, tens of thousands of Kurds live in Britain. From now on, the Kurdish diaspora in Britain can watch Rudaw’s TV feed on Freeview,” Rudaw said.
“This is a new step by Rudaw Media Network to impart news and information in an easy manner to the Kurdish diaspora in Britain. On the occasion of this service of ours and the New Year nearing, we congratulate the Kurdish people of Britain,” said Rudaw.
On June 29, 2019, Rudaw Media Network’s TV, radio, and digital platforms marked their sixth birthday. Rudaw started life as a newspaper a decade ago. The weekly paper is still in circulation.
