Yezidis in Germany hold ceremony for woman killed in Afrin
German-based family and friends of Nergis Dawoud, who was killed in Syria’s Afrin last week by suspected Turkish-backed forces, held a special ceremony to bid her farewell.
Nergiz, 23, from the village of Kimar, was killed on November 17. The ceremony was held at the ‘Yezidi House’ in the Germany city of Oldenburg, home to many Yazidis in exile.
She was reportedly working for Afrin’s Civil Defense Organization. She was allegedly attacked while carrying a large sum of money to pay the salaries of the organization’s employees, according to Rudaw’s source.
Afrin fell under the control of Turkish forces and their Syrian militia proxies in early 2018 following Operation Olive Branch.
