KYIV - Four people were injured and several buildings were damaged after dozens of drones were shot down out of the skies above Kyiv on Friday night. One of the spots hit by a drone is close to the kindergarten of Denis Galaka's four-year-old daughter.
“We were just walking around in the morning, trying to just have a good Saturday morning. Then, we realized that just 50 meters away from the kindergarten there was debris fallen from the drone, a Russian drone,” Denis Galaka, a resident of Kyiv, told Rudaw on Saturday.
He called on Russia to cease its attacks.
After extensive discussions with the United States this week, the presidents of Ukraine and Russia agreed to not target each other's energy infrastructure, but attacks from both countries continue. On Friday night, 217 drones were directed at Ukraine and 47 drones at Russia. Both sides suffered significant material damage.
Oleg is a Ukrainian soldier. He said he had no confidence in the limited ceasefire agreement.
“I don't think this agreement will hold because the other side doesn't want peace at this time,” he said.
On the border and the front lines, the war continues with daily casualties and injuries.
Mikhail Samus is a military analyst. He said political negotiations have a huge impact on the battlefield.
More than 12,000 civilians have been killed since Russia launched its military campaign against Ukraine in February 2022. An estimated 3.7 million Ukrainians have been displaced internally, while around 6.1 million have sought refuge in Europe and beyond, according to United Nations data.
