Kerry and Lavrov to meet in Vienna on Syria

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region — The Associated Press is reporting the top US and Russian diplomats will meet alongside their Saudi and Turkish counterparts to discuss the ongoing Syrian civil war.

The Russian foreign ministry said in a Wednesday statement Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and US Secretary of State John Kerry will soon meet in Vienna with officials from Riyadh and Ankara.

The announcement comes after Syrian President Bashar al-Assad made a surprise visit to Moscow and met Russian President Vladimir Putin Tuesday.

Russia began an air campaign against anti-Assad militants in Syria in late September, a move the US has been critical of.
