Rudaw TV presenter Shahyan Tahseen received the 2019 Highly Commended Rising Stars award from global media network FIPP on Tuesday evening.
The award from FIPP, which has more than 500 member companies in over 60 countries, recognises "outstanding work in the global media industry." Submissions for the award came from Africa, Asia, Europe and America.
Shahyan presents Barpirsiyar, a show that examines the everyday challenges of life in the Kurdistan Region.
Network CEO James Hewes introduced her to the stage to receive the award on the first night of their World Media Congress in Las Vegas.
"She is a television presenter who has done an awesome amount of work on what's happening in Kurdistan and the issues that they're facing there, particularly around gender and around the way women are treated," Hewes said.
Speaking to Rudaw's Nuroj program from Las Vegas after the award ceremony, Shahyan expressed her gratitude to the show's guests and its behind the scenes team.
“I am very happy, I thank all my colleagues... I thank those people who were guests on our program, as much as we helped them to convey their concerns to the authorities, they have also helped us,” she said on Wednesday morning.
FIPP's World Media Congress is taking place from November 12-14 in Las Vegas. Barpirsyar airs weekdays at 6:00pm on Rudaw TV.
