Austrian Defense Minister: Borders need to be monitored to help curb migrant inflows

Austria's Defense Minister, Hans Peter Doskozil, said Europe has the potential to deal with the current refugee crisis and argued that the inflow of new migrants needs to be stopped through closer monitoring of borders.

“I don’t think Europe is really shaken by the arrival of these refugees. I am positive about the situation. The European countries have the potential to resolve the current crisis and deal with it,” Doskozil told a Rudaw reporter at the sideline of Munich Security Conference on Saturday.

He also said that more efforts should be made to solve the refugee problem and prevent more of them from streaming into Europe.

“We should concentrate on the Balkans and Greece. Also we need to monitor the Turkish and Syrian borders,” Doskozil explained.

“We need to provide more humanitarian aid to these countries. That will help stem any further inflows," he added.
