Israel says two soldiers killed in drone attack from Iraq
ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - The Israeli army said on Friday that two of its soldiers were killed and two dozen others were injured when an explosive-laden drone from Iraq hit a military base on Thursday morning.
The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) said two explosive-laden drones were launched from Iraq early on Thursday. One struck a military base in the Golan Heights and the other was shot down, Israeli media reported, citing the army.
Two soldiers, both aged 19, were killed and 24 others were wounded, two of them seriously, reported The Times of Israel.
The Islamic Resistance in Iraq, a loose network of pro-Iran armed groups, said on Thursday that it had struck Israel with drones.
The network has claimed numerous attacks on Israel since the start of Israel-Hamas war in Gaza Strip last October that was triggered by the Palestinian group Hamas’ unprecedented cross border attack on southern Israel.
Israel is also fighting the Hezbollah movement in Lebanon. Iraqi armed groups have declared their support for the Lebanese group.
