"The school does not have windows and doors. The weather is cold and during the summer it is very hot. In the winter, water enters the classrooms. It is very difficult," said Yusra Ayad, a student.
The teaching staff and students are also worried that the building may collapse at any time, calling on the relevant local authorities of Shingal to repair the barely intact building, a call that has gone unheeded for many years now.

"Our school is very dangerous. What we do not know is when it will collapse on top of us. It does not have doors or windows. The school does not even have water or any sewage... This school indeed is very dangerous," Huda Farhad, another angry student lamented. "When it rains, we all get wet, because there are no windows."
Students from grades one to nine are currently enrolled at Konrove Primary School, located in the Konrove village, Shingal. A total of nine teachers are teaching at the school.
"We have at least 100 students. We reopened the school three years ago," said Hamady Ahmed, the school principal. "We have too many difficulties to deal with. It is very difficult when you see the students are all worried about rainfall inside their classes."
The principal is calling on charity organizations and the government to resolve their issues.
"We want the organizations and the authorities to help solve this for us. The school is very dangerous. All we want is a little help. Everyone has seen and knows our difficulties..," he complained.
There is a total of 64 Kurdish language schools across the Shingal district, with over 15,000 students enrolled, according to Rudaw's Adla Bakir.
Nearly a decade on, Shingal is still struggling to recover from the devastating impact of ISIS’s takeover of the area and the atrocities, including killings, rapes and kidnappings it carried out against the area's predominantly Yazidi population.
