HORASAN, Turkey — Haji Kirmach, a 75-year-old Kurdish singer, says he has not shaved his moustache for 60 years. Now nearly 80-centimetres long, it could be one of the longest in the world.
Kirmach is a barber living in Horasan in Turkey’s Erzurum province. He says it costs him 500 Turkish lira [$60] a month to take good care of what he calls his “symbol.”
He says he has never considered shaving his long moustache and wants to take it to his grave.
Kirmach says he has taken part in a number of competitions and won awards for his moustache.
His barbershop hustles and bustles with friends, travelers and strangers, and some take pictures with him, while others listen to his songs. His friends and colleagues also express pride in their friendship with Kirmach.
