In ongoing clashes, Turkish military reports 22 PKK killed
ERBIL, Kurdistan Region – Turkey said its forces killed at least 22 fighters of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) on Sunday in the country’s Kurdish southeast, which has been the scene of clashes and curfews for months.
A military statement quoted by the official Anadolu Agency said security forces killed 17 PKK members in the Kurdish-populated areas of Czire in Sirnak province and five in Sur, Diyarbakir province.
The statement added that Turkish forces have so far killed 500 PKK fighters in Czire and 149 in Sur since December.
According to a report by the pro-Kurdish People’s Democratic Party (HDP), Turkey imposed a string of curfews on several Kurdish cities and towns, resulting in the deaths of 161 civilians, 30 of them women.
Ongoing clashes between the Turkish army and residents of Turkey's southeastern Kurdish cities have displaced hundreds of thousands of civilians.
