Roboski massacre an "embarrassment" for Turkey: HDP

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - On the seventh anniversary of the Roboski massacre in which 34 Kurdish villagers were killed in a Turkish air strike the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) said on Friday that it was “an embarrassment” for Turkey which it blames for the deaths.

Seven years have passed on the mass killing of 34 Kurdish villagers, mostly children, said the HDP, and these people were only trying to make a living.

“Roboski is the country's embarrassment and bleeding wound and the search for justice.” HDP said.

The Kurdish villagers were carrying goods across the border between Turkey and the Kurdistan Region when Turkish F-16 warplanes bombed their convoy on December 28, 2011.

Only six survived the incident.

The Turkish government called the incident a tragic mistake, but families still await prosecution of the perpetrators.
