US embassy warns of potential terror attacks, kidnappings in Istanbul
ERBIL, Kurdistan Region — The United States embassy in Ankara issued a security alert on Friday warning of potential terror attacks in Istanbul. The embassy has temporarily suspended services.
“The U.S. Mission in Turkey has received credible reports of potential terrorist attacks and kidnappings against U.S. citizens and foreign nationals in Istanbul, including against the U.S. Consulate General, as well as potentially other locations in Turkey,” read a statement on the embassy website.
It advises American citizens to take caution and avoid crowds, “including large office buildings or shopping malls.”
Services for American citizens and visas are temporarily suspended.
