ERBIL, Kurdistan Region — Fourteen foreign nationals with suspected links to Islamic State (ISIS) were arrested in Istanbul, Turkish state media reported on Tuesday.
“Anti-terror units simultaneously raided eight addresses in four districts of Istanbul and made the arrests,” Anadolu Agency reported on Tuesday, adding that security forces also confiscated digital and organizational documents.
Earlier this month, Turkish anti-terrorism units arrested 12 ISIS suspects in Istanbul. In March, 18 suspects were arrested, 16 of which were foreign nationals.
Turkey is a member of the multinational Global Coalition Against Daesh (ISIS), formed when ISIS took control of swathes of Syrian and Iraqi territory in 2014.
Numerous ISIS members have been found in Turkey.
Turkey has been accused of financial and military support of ISIS, according to a report from a former UN advisor, conduct Ankara has denied.
A Yazidi girl taken captive in 2014 was rescued during a raid in the Turkish capital Ankara in February. Police said that one of her captors was said to be a senior ISIS member from Iraq.
Several other Yazidi children have been found with ISIS-linked families in Turkey.
