Bus overturns in Turkey leaving 6 dead, dozens injured
ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - At least six people were killed and dozens were injured on Friday after a bus rolled over in Turkey’s central Aksaray province.
“Unfortunately, due to this traffic accident, six of our citizens lost their lives. According to initial findings, we have 25 injured,” Anadolu Agency (AA) reported, citing Aksaray Governor Mehmet Ali Kumbuzoglu.
The accident took place on the Aksaray-Ankara highway, according to state media Anadolu Agency (AA).
The bus was en route from Balikesir to Cappadocia before it overturned 25 kilometers away from Akasary, according to Kumbuzoglu.
It was not immediately clear what caused the incident. “An investigation has been launched and is being followed. It will be concluded as soon as possible and necessary actions will be taken,” Kumbuzoglu said.
Bus accidents are a common occurrence in Turkey. A collision between a passenger bus and a truck on Thursday resulted in the death of a bus attendant and the injury of 17 others.
In May, a four-vehicle pileup left 10 people dead and 39 injured in the southern province of Mersin.
In December, 10 people died, and 61 others were injured in northwestern Sakarya province after seven vehicles collided in another multiple-car accident.
