The curfew came into effect Wednesday morning, according to a statement from the governor’s office.
Turkey has routinely imposed curfews on Kurdish villages and cities in the country’s southeast in its conflict with the PKK, named a terror organization by Turkey, the EU, and the US.
The decades-long conflict was reignited in July 2015. At least 3,132 people have been killed during the renewed clashes, according to figures from the International Crisis Group (ICG). This includes 1,499 PKK fighters, 996 Turkish security force members, 417 civilians, and 220 youth killed during urban clashes and who could not be conclusively identified as civilians or PKK members.
The conflict has waned in 2017. September was one of the least deadly months in the 27 months of renewed clashes – nineteen people were killed according to the ICG.
