Erdogan calls the Dutch ‘Nazi remnants” after Netherlands cancels Turkish FM flight

ISTANBUL, Turkey – Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has described the Dutch government as “Nazi remnants and fascists” after the Netherlands cancelled a flight of the Turkish foreign minister Mevlut Cavusoglu to the country.

Erdogan said that the Turkish government should cancel the Dutch flights to Turkey as a response. 

Cavusoglu was to take part in a rally in Rotterdam in support of the Yes campaign in the upcoming April referendum on a number of constitutional changes that paves the way for an executive presidential system in place of the current parliamentary one.

Cavusoglu  said that Turkey would impose “severe sanctions” on the Dutch government prior to the a decision by the Dutch government that revoked the permission for his flight to land in the country. 

This move by the Dutch authorities comes a day after some European countries banned political campaigns by Turkish parties in European cities.
