Turkey's Erdogan reiterates support for Ukraine, criticizes Russia
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan criticized what he called Russia's "unjust" military interventions in Syria and Ukraine during a visit by the latter's president to Ankara.
"Russia says it entered Syria upon a call from the Syrian administration. I wonder who asked them to enter Ukraine? How will this fall in line with international law?" he asked during a joint press conference before adding that it boils down to "might makes right."
Ukraine's President Petro Poroshenko is on an official visit to Ankara whose economic, political and trade ties with Kiev are being enhanced at a time when both countries are opposed to Russian actions in their respective regions.
"A strong Ukraine," Erdogan claimed, according to Hurryiet news, "which has strengthened its political stability, is also a guarantee for regional peace and order. On this point, all countries support Ukraine and further increase their current contributions.
"Turkey is a friend and partner," Poroshenko added during the press conference while expressing his appreciation for Turkey's support in light of what he called the "brutal violation of Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity," by Russia.
