Bus crash leaves multiple casualties near Turkey's Ankara
ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - A passenger bus crashed into a highway bridge in Turkey’s capital of Ankara, resulting in multiple fatalities and injuries, state media reported.
According to Turkey’s state television (TRT), the accident occurred at around 5:00 am local time. The bus was heading towards the central Eskisehir province.
The crash resulted in the death of 9 people and the injury of 25 others, according to Turkish health ministry.
According to Sahin, there were no brake marks at the site of the accident and the driver may have been asleep.
State-owned Anadolu Agency reported that emergency medical, firefighting, and police teams were dispatched to the accident site.
Justice Minister Yilmaz Tunc said on X that an investigation was launched by a chief prosecutor in Ankara.
Bus accidents are a common occurrence in Turkey. In May, a chain reaction collision involving four vehicles left 10 people dead and 39 injured in the southern Mersin province.
In December 10 people died, and 61 others were injured in northwestern Sakarya province after seven vehicles collided in another multiple-car accident.
