Rojava schools to re-open with PYD-approved curriculum
ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - The schools in the ethnically Kurdish area of Syria known as Rojava will be opened next month with a new school program curriculum that was approved Friday by the region's governing Democratic Union Party(PYD).
The three cantons of Cizire, Kobani and Afrin said the schools will re-open on September 15.
The new teaching program in Cizire canton will be held in the Kurdish language in the first, second and third stages, but in the fourth stage will be in Arabic. The fifth stage will have an English module and the educational will then proceed in Arabic.
History and geography lessons will be in held in Kurdish.
Arab students living in Afrin will study three years in Arabic, then in Kurdish and English.
Political parties that are not involved in governing the cantons criticized the new curriculum for being written by the PYD.
