ERBIL, Kurdistan Region — Dozens of ISIS extremists infiltrated into Kobani in a brutal Thursday attack that left at least 145 civilians dead, and fighting continues with militants still inside the Syrian Kurdish city. But faced with death, some of the ISIS fighters may be seeking to flee, according to Rudaw correspondent Omer Kalo in Kobani. “YPG fighters followed them and hunted one of them down, and I still don’t know what happened to the other militant,” he said in the above video, adding that heavy fighting had also erupted near Mishta Nur hospital. “There was an intense fight, the area was heavily shelled. As you see, the buildings have been completely destroyed,” Kalo said. As shown in the above video, despite recent victories at Tal Abyad (Gere Spi) and an apparent advance on the ISIS stronghold of Raqqa, the Syrian Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG) and their allies still face stiff challenges in defending and keeping the territory they have fought so hard to win from ISIS.
