KOBANI, Syria — The dead bodies of civilians have been left in the streets for three days since ISIS jihadis conducted a major surprise attack on Syria’s Kurdish town of Kobani near the Turkish border.
The Islamic State group launched the attack in Kobani on Thursday, massacring civilians, including women and children. The militants were eventually driven out by the Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG) fighters Saturday.
Rudaw correspondent Omer Kalo reported Sunday the situation in the city was “calm,” adding that Kobani had been completely cleared of radical elements.
Thursday's surprise attack came one day after ISIS called for a wave of violence during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.
