ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - The Kurdish National Council (ENKS/KNC) is set to meet with Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) chief Mazloum Abdi in the coming days with mediation from the US-led coalition as part of Kurdish unity efforts, a senior member said on Monday.

“In the following days, the ENKS party leadership is going to meet with Mazloum Kobane [Abdi] through the mediation of the international coalition,” ENKS leadership member Sulaiman Oso told Rudaw English.

On Tuesday, an ENKS delegation met with Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) leader Masoud Barzani to discuss unity and rapprochement among the Kurdish parties in Syria. ENKS has close ties with the KDP.

Earlier this month, Barzani held a historic meeting with Abdi in Erbil to discuss Kurdish unity talks against the backdrop of the events in Syria, over a month after an Islamist-led coalition toppled Bashar al-Assad’s regime.

The developments have pressured Rojava’s opposing coalitions to accelerate Kurdish unity talks.

Last month, Abdi met with an ENKS delegation, in the presence of the US-led global coalition against the Islamic State (ISIS), to discuss Kurdish unity going forward.
