ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - Two people have been reported by artillery fire on northern Syria late on Wednesday, according to multiple reports that blamed Turkey and its local proxies.

The shelling targeted a civilian house in the town of Tal Rifaat, killing two people, according to Ronahi TV.

Hawar News Agency (ANHA) also reported two people were killed and said the heavy weaponry attack was carried out by Turkey and its Syrian proxies.

Both media outlets, affiliated with Kurdish authorities in northeast Syria (Rojava), reported several people were injured.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said Turkish forces hit a civilian house, killing one man and injuring several members of his family, some of whom were trapped under the rubble. The war monitor, which relies on a network of sources within the country, said that one of the injured is a woman who had been displaced from the nearby city of Afrin.

Turkey also shelled the Rojava city of Kobane on Wednesday night, according to Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) spokesperson Farhad Shami, who confirmed two people have been killed in a statement on X.

Turkey and its Syrian proxies have not commented.

Tal Rifaat is located within a small region of Afrin that is still under control of the Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG). Hundreds of thousands of Kurds who fled Turkey’s 2018 military offensive in Afrin are still living in camps in Tal Rifaat.

Turkey has threatened to carry out another offensive to remove Kurdish fighters from the enclave. Ankara accuses the YPG of using the location to attack its forces.
